As Executive Director of SAALT, Suman Raghunathan coordinates SAALT’s efforts to amplify diverse South Asian voices advocating for progressive change in the US. Ms. Raghunathan is a passionate and seasoned immigrant rights advocate with deep connections to South Asian communities, and relationships with key partners in the racial justice and immigrant rights movements.
Azadeh Shahshahani is Legal & Advocacy Director with Project South. Azadeh has worked for a number of years in the Southeast to protect the human rights of immigrants and Muslim, Middle Eastern, and South Asian communities. She previously served as National Security/Immigrants’ Rights Project Director with the ACLU of Georgia. Azadeh is a past president of the National Lawyers Guild.
Sirine Shebaya is a Senior Staff Attorney with Muslim Advocates. Prior to joining Muslim Advocates, she spent many years advocating for the civil rights of immigrants and other communities of color.
Johnathan Smith serves as legal director at Muslim Advocates. Most recently, Johnathan served as senior counsel to the Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, where he helped manage the department’s work on religious discrimination, LGBT rights, employment discrimination, housing discrimination, and appellate matters.
Arti Walker-Peddakolta is a Senior Product Manager at a non-profit tech company, a former Microbiologist, and a US Army veteran.
