Anisa Mehdi is the executive director of the Abraham Path Initiative, a cultural and educational organization born at Harvard University. The Initiative promotes the success and viability of walking trails, cultural heritage preservation, and unlikely human encounters along the ancient route of Abraham through the modern Middle East. Anisa guides API on its mission to uphold the ethical values of Abraham: exploration and hospitality. As executive director, Anisa draws on 25 years of experience as an Emmy-Award winning broadcast journalist, columnist, and consultant specializing in global affairs, religion, and culture. She was a pioneer in mainstream American news broadcasting. An Arab-American Muslim, she helped broaden the scope of reporting on the Middle East and its religious communities for programs such as CBS 60 Minutes, Nightline, and PBS Frontline. She was the first American to cover the Hajj for US television from location in Mecca (1998), and produced and directed the acclaimed National Geographic documentary "Inside Mecca" (2003). Her third film on Hajj premiered on PBS in 2014. Anisa's reporting focuses on the people who live with the consequences of international politics and decision-making, a focus she also brings to her work at API.
